Official Charts Company Renews Millward Brown Contract

August 03, 2010

Millward Brown no 1 chart research company

The Official Charts Company has appointed the charts’ research contract to Millward Brown UK for a further four years.

The Official Charts Company compiles the UK's audio and video charts – including the Top 40 Singles, Albums and Video charts.

This new contract means that Millward Brown will have held the UK charts’ account for 21 years.  This is longer than any other research company since the charts first began in 1952.

Martin Talbot, OCC managing director, said: "Millward Brown has demonstrated that its knowledge of our industry, and their efficiency and quantitative research skills are second to none."

Bob Barnes, head of the Millward Brown Charts’ Unit, added: "The music and video markets are incredibly dynamic and both are experiencing a significant period of change with the introduction of subscription and streaming services as new ways to digitally consume music and video.”

Millward Brown collects sales data daily from all the major over-the-counter and home delivery entertainment retailers and  all major internet download sites in the UK and Northern Ireland. Recently data from subscription and streaming service providers has been added to the audit. Digital video analysis will be included with this new contract.

A key element of the new contract includes the introduction of additional reporting facilities on the OCC online system, a Web-based portal that allows OCC subscribers to dynamically interrogate sales data for any item of audio or video product at any time since 1994 through to present day.
